Basic Guidelines
The most common negative words used in English are "not" and "no".. However, these rather small words (only two or three letters) are often overlooked by readers all the more because it is so small and so commonly used.

He made a conscious effort not to see the boss.

The manager reacted quickly and there was no trouble.

He was not allowed to take the test because he did not remember to bring his official test admission ticket.

The results show that the theory is not true.

He stated that he did not behave unethically.


Bob felt that the report was not objective.

He was not caught by the police.

Youth in their teens were not included in the sample

(on purpose)

Youth in their teens were not included in the sample.
(inadvertently = by careless mistake)

I do not understand the relevance.

We do not have the time to do a complete analysis.

Humidity was the reason that successful test results were not obtained.

Students must not cheat on a test.

My friend said that he would not help me.

The committee decided that the proposal was not acceptable.

He avoided the boss.
