UPDATE

Kindergartens

Kindergartens are supervised by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. These are for children 3 to 5 year of age, regardless of whether both of their parents work or not. There are both public and private kindergartens, with the latter having higher fees. Generally, kindergartens provide around a four-hour daily program, but some facilities may keep children for longer hours in a way similar to nursery schools.

How to apply

Application should take place directly at the kindergarten. Kindergartens release their application forms and relevant information, and accept the applications in the fall (October-November).
