Status of residence for working in Japan

Back to "Career support for international students"

When you start working in Japan, you need to change the status of residence from “College Student” to the status that allows you to work, according to the "Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act", which is the law regarding the foreigners living in Japan. The status varies according to the type of job. If the job and your study field (not necessarily what you studied in Japan) have nothing in common, or if the salary is too low, the permission may not be granted.
