Many of the foreigners who work in companies in Japan have the status of either “Engineer” or “Specialist in Humanities/ International Services”. Some may have the status of "Researcher".


Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/
International Services

This status includes two types of status. “Specialist in Humanities” is for those who graduated undergraduate or graduate course in the field of jurisprudence, economics, sociology or other human science fields. “International Services” is for those who work as interpreter/ translator, or language instructor, no matter if the content is in the field of science or humanities and social sciences. “International Services” also includes designers, copywriters and those who are dealing with overseas trade. For those who graduated undergraduate or graduate course in the field of science, and work as an engineer.

Researcher You will obtain the “Researcher” status when you work as a researcher, even if you are working for a company.
