One-on-one interaction between an international student/foreign researcher and a Japanese volunteer
FACE is a one-on-one program run by the International Center, the University of Tokyo and provides international students/researchers opportunities to interact with Japanese volunteers.
Many international students in Japan express that they want mores opportunities to meet and interact with Japanese people. It is not easy especially for students in graduate schools students who are busy with their research activities to find chances to make friends with Japanese people, be exposed to natural Japanese language, and enhance understanding of Japanese people/daily life/society even if the length of stay in Japan is long.
FACE program volunteers are native or near-native Japanese speakers who wish to interact with international students and provide assistance to them when needed. The International Center matches an international student and a volunteer enrolled in the program. A match is made based on a student's profile and interests that they expressed at the time of registaration. Once a match has been made, the student and the volunteer participate in whatever activities they would like. They may share family events or make lifelong friendships. There are no restrictions and designated period for the program; they are only asked to interact in Japanese language. All volunteers are looking forward to meeting with international students.
FACE volunteers include a wide variety of people. We hope that interantional students will enhance understanding of Japanese people/society through interaction with local volunteers, not just word-of-mouth from friends, which will enrich their studying in Japan experience.
*Please bring your weekly schedule (from Monday to Sunday/morning, afternoon, evening and after) to register. (For new students, please come after your class schedule is fixed.)
