| International Center, the University of Tokyo has FACE Program to promote interaction between international students and Japanese students or citizens in Japanese language.
Many international students studying in Japan say that they want to have more chance to meet with Japanese people. Especially for the graduate school students, although they stay in Japan for a long period of time, the time passes so fast, due to the busy schedule of their research activity. It is not easy to find many opportunities to make friends with Japanese people, expose yourself to natural Japanese language as used in everyday life, and get to know Japanese society, the way Japanese people think, and their daily lives.
FACE volunteers are those who wish to meet and support international students. Considering what you wrote and said at the time of registration, we bring together one international student to one volunteer. After we introduce you to your volunteer, it is all up to you and your volunteer to decide what you will do together. You may be able to have a close “family friend”, or a long-lasting friendship that continues even after you return to your home country. It is an unrestricted program, only asking you to interact with each other in Japanese language. All volunteers are looking forward to meeting international students.
The volunteers include a wide variety of people. We wish this program brings a good opportunity to experience and understand Japanese society and Japanese people by actually meeting them, not just knowledge about Japan that you hear from your friends. We believe this program allows you to enjoy rich experience in your life in Japan.
